At Spiral Hydrogen you have a chance to do something extraordinary: shape the future of energy.
We started with a big question: what does civilization need to flourish? The answer we came to is: cheap green energy.
We are starting with hydrogen. Our novel electrolyzer design, which achieves 95% electrical efficiency (HHV), eliminates many costly components, and can deliver green hydrogen below gray hydrogen costs.
We just need you to make it happen.
So far, we have validated the core design, protected the IP, and got VC funding. Now we are preparing for a 100 kW pilot.
We’re looking for a Process Engineer to define, design, and integrate the balance of plant (BoP) for our electrolyzer system now and in the future.
What you’ll do
This is a founding role: you'll own the BoP of our electrolyzer system, collaborating with chemical and mechanical engineers. From the first 100 kW system onward, you'll help shape how the system evolves as the team grows.
In practice, you will
- Own the BoP end-to-end: water and electrolyte handling, gas-liquid separation, venting/drains, etc.
- Define operating modes and how the system behaves across them: startup, shutdown, cleaning/flushing, abnormal conditions, etc.
- Turn requirements into a buildable system: create the high-level process design, specify equipment and write supplier specs.
- Help build the pilot: work hands-on with the team to integrate BoP subsystems into a pilot-ready system, troubleshoot issues and iterate fast.
- Design with commercialization in mind: make choices that reduce cost/complexity and improve reliability, maintainability and scalability.
What we’re looking for
Background-wise:
- Direct experience with electrolyzers or electrochemical hydrogen systems (roughly 5+ years in industry or equivalent). Bonus if you’ve been close to commissioning / operations.
- Training in process engineering, chemical engineering, or a closely related field (degree helpful, but skills matter more than credentials).
- Strong intuition for fluids + gas systems: water and electrolyte handling, pressure/flow control, gas separation, venting, and failure modes.
- Comfortable turning requirements into reality: process diagrams, equipment specs, supplier coordination, and practical integration decisions.
- Safety-minded around H₂/O₂ systems.
You’re likely a great fit if you:
- Default to ownership: you take initiative, don’t wait for instructions, and are comfortable with ambiguous problems.
- Communicate clearly and can coordinate across mechanical and chemistry/electrochemistry as we scale the team.
We care far more about systems you’ve actually worked on than about credentials, titles, or perfectly clean résumés.
Practicalities
- Location: On-site in Delft, Netherlands (office + workshop at YES!Delft)
- Time commitment: Full-time
- Team: Small, technical, founder-led
- Compensation: Competitive salary + equity for early employees
- Start: As soon as possible
- Visa & relocation: If we like you, we’ll make it happen :)
