Role and Responsibilities
We are looking for a motivated Process Engineering Intern to help us scale our modular cracking technology from prototype to commercial deployment. Your work will directly impact the design of our AC1000 (1 ton H2/day) and future larger-scale plants.
• Process Simulation: Develop and refine steady-state and dynamic process models (e.g., in Aspen Plus, HYSYS, or DWSIM) to model and optimize plant performance.
• Mass & Energy Balances: Perform detailed mass and energy balance calculations for the core cracking reactor and full balance of plant (BoP).
• Process Design Support: Assist in the development of PFDs (Process Flow Diagrams) and P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams) for our skid-based chemical plants.
• Longevity & Material Testing: Support the R&D team in designing and monitoring longevity tests for our core reactors, specifically focusing on material degradation and corrosion testing in ammonia-rich environments.
• Modularization & Skids: Support the engineering team in "modularizing" plant components into 40ft shipping container formats for easy transport and installation.
• Technical Documentation: Maintain accurate documentation of simulation results and design decisions to support our FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) studies.
• Safety & Compliance: Contribute to safety reviews (HAZOP/HAZID) to ensure our systems meet the highest environmental and safety standards.
Qualifications and Experience
• Education: Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Technical Skills: Strong foundation in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and chemical reaction engineering.
• Software: Proficiency in process simulation software (Aspen, HYSYS, etc.) and Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint).
• Mindset: A "hands-on" proactive attitude suitable for a fast-paced startup environment.
• Communication: Fluency in English (written and verbal) is required. Fluency in Dutch is preferred but not required.
• Passion: A genuine interest in the hydrogen economy and decarbonizing the planet.
Our Offer
This internship offers a front-row seat to the energy transition. You will work in the heart of Rotterdam’s hydrogen ecosystem, gaining practical experience in designing "first-of-a-kind" (FOAK) chemical plants.
You will be part of a diverse and inclusive culture where your contributions to process design will help shape the future of clean energy.
Have we sparked your interest? Join us in making affordable hydrogen a reality. Send your CV and a brief motivation letter to HR@hymonic.com. We look forward to hearing from you!
