About Us:
Fluxthor develops a new type of magnetic actuator that does not use coils like every other actuator. Instead of adding magnetic flux we can change magnetic resistance with our energy efficient reluctance tuning principle. This gives the benefit that our actuators dissipate very little heat, which makes the actuators faster and more precise, which is critical in the field we operate in like the semiconductor and optical industry. The goal of Fluxthor is to develop the world’s highest performing actuators that can reach subnanometer accuracy at high forces and displacement. We are a spinoff from the TU Delft and work from an office at YES!Delft.
The Role:
For the position we are looking for a student that has both capabilities of theoretical knowledge and practical experience in embedded systems. Reluctance actuators are inherently hard to control due to non-linear behavior, to improve our control algorithms we are looking to build our in-house motion controller. The actuator will need to be controlled in the kHz range; the motion controller also needs to meet high requirements, complete with the I/O modules, EtherCAT connection, and a built-in power supply.
What You’ll Do:
Do the design and prototyping of a high-speed motion controller for our actuators
Work on firmware and hardware integration for control in the kHz range
Development of I/O modules, EtherCAT connectivity, and embedded power supply integration
Contribute to algorithm optimization for non-linear actuator behavior
Build, test and validate controller performance in real-world setups
Collaborate closely with the founding team to iterate on design improvements
Fit in all other activities like literature review, writing and meetings to finish your thesis
What We’re looking for:
Graduation year of your studies (WO/HBO), doing embedded systems, electrical engineering, mechatronics or similar. Looking for a graduation project (thesis) or a long internship (>4 months)
Practical and pro-active mindset to design, build, and test complete motion controllers from start to finish
Communicative team member that likes to collaborate and works at the office most of the time
Attention to detail in every step of the process to get to the best results in all intermediate and end results
Eager to learn and contribute to real product development in a startup environment
Nice-to-have:
Experience with real-time control systems or motion control
Familiarity with EtherCAT communication protocols
Understanding of power electronics or embedded power supply design
Experience with FPGAs, microcontrollers (e.g. STM32), or SoC platforms
Prior work on motor control or non-linear control systems
What we Offer:
An internship compensation of €350 per month (on a full-time basis) + travel compensation
Work with a highly motivated team that strives to create the best team and helps you get the best out of yourself
Work on technology that will redefine the category of actuation that could end up in the most advanced machines in the world.
